Kingdom marshalate

General

  1. Kingdoms must document their marshalate structure and process for the authorization of marshals for this discipline.
  2. The general Society requirements for marshals, authorities and responsibilities are found in:
    1. Marshalate - Overview, and
    2. Marshalate - Responsibilities and chain of command.
  3. In addition, Caid has the following marshal types, requirements, and responsibilities:

Caid's marshalate structure

Armored combat marshal-in-training (ACMiT)

  1. Not warranted
  2. A marshal-in-training is under the tutelage of the marshal's office and is subject to instruction and correction by any authorized marshal.
  3. Assists marshals with armor and weapon inspections.
  4. Assists marshals on the field during combat.
  5. Calls holds for safety reasons.
  6. Can marshal pick-up and practice fights.

Armored combat marshal (ACM)

  1. Warranted by the Kingdom Earl Marshal.
  2. Performs all the duties and responsibilities of an armored combat marshal-in-training (ACMiT).
  3. Inspects and approves standard armor and weapons, including missiles. Visually inspects bows.
  4. Trains marshals-in-training.
  5. May act as marshal-in-charge for tournaments and melee tournaments and war practices. For war events, the marshal-in-charge shall be an armored combat senior marshal (ACSM) (This requirement can be waived at the Kingdom Earl Marshal's discretion).

Armored combat senior marshal (ACSM)

  1. Warranted by the Kingdom Earl Marshal.
  2. All the duties and responsibilities of an armored combat marshal-in-training (ACMiT) and armored combat marshal (ACM).
  3. Trains marshals and marshals-in-training.
  4. Can authorize armored combat fighters.
  5. Can authorize and reauthorize armored combat archers, if they are authorized in armored combat archery (ACCA). This requirement may be waived by the Kingdom Deputy for Archery and approval of the Kingdom Earl Marshal.
  6. Can authorize and reauthorize armored combat siege (ACSG) per the following requirements:
    1. They must be authorized in armored combat siege (ACSG).
    2. Have completed 1 year or 4 events of experience as an engineer, or have completed an appropriate training program within their kingdom.
  7. An armored combat senior marshal (ACSM) is designated a Deputy Earl Marshal for the purpose of witnessing and conducting marshal authorizations.
  8. Can approve unusual weapons, standard weapons and armor.
    1. Tests bow draw weights.
    2. May act as marshal-in-charge for tournaments, melee tournaments, and war events.

Territorial marshals

  1. Warranted by the Kingdom Earl Marshal for a specific territory.
  2. Territorial offices are those positions in the marshalate that carry the added responsibility of running a given territory's marshaling activities. This includes colleges, shires, cantons and baronies.
    1. Organizes marshaling activities at canton or college events.
    2. Is the marshal-in-charge of their territorial practice.
    3. Appoints deputies to handle disciplines (armored combat, rapier, etc.) they are not warranted in.

Deputy for Combat Archery and Siege

  1. Warranted as Deputy for Combat Archery and Siege by the Kingdom Earl Marshal
  2. All the duties and responsibilities of an armored combat marshal-in-training (ACMiT), armored combat marshal (ACM), and armored combat senior marshal (ACSM).
  3. Trains and authorizes senior marshals in combat archery and siege.
  4. Is the default combat archery marshal-in-charge (CAMiC) for Kingdom-level events, including Great Western War or other wars where Caid is a principal.

Kingdom Armored Combat Marshal

  1. Appointed and warranted by the Kingdom Earl Marshal as the Deputy Earl Marshal for Armored Combat
  2. Duties and responsibilities as described for Kingdom Deputy Earl Marshal for a Discipline

Caid's marshal authorization process

Marshal-in-training (ACMiT)

Requirements

  1. Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age.

Authorization

  1. Fighters are authorized as a marshal-in-training as part of their combat authorization.
  2. Non-fighters need to complete the verbal portion of a combat authorization, administered by an armored combat senior marshal (ACSM), to become a marshal-in-training.

Re-Authorization

  1. Fighters reauthorize as a marshal-in-training when they re-authorize their combat authorization.
  2. Non-fighters need to complete the verbal portion of a combat reauthorization to stay a marshal-in-training.

Armored combat marshal (ACM)

Requirements

  1. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  2. Must be a current member of SCA, Inc.

Authorization

  1. Authorization of the prospective marshal candidate shall be performed by two (2) armored combat senior marshals (ACSM). These two senior marshals must be the same marshals used throughout all the testing.

Prerequisites

  1. Find an armored combat senior marshal (ACSM) who is willing to be your marshal sponsor.
  2. Under the supervision of an armored combat marshal (ACM), marshal melees for 25 or more hours over a minimum of 5 events.
  3. If the marshal-in-training has been an authorized fighter for at least 1 year the requirement will be 12 or more hours over a minimum of 3 events.
  4. Under the supervision of an armored combat marshal (ACM) perform tournament marshaling for 25 or more hours over a minimum of 5 events.
  5. If the marshal-in-training has been an authorized fighter for at least 1 year the requirement will be 12 or more hours over a minimum of 3 events.
  6. Complete marshal activities in armor/weapon inspections for 6 hours or 6 events.
  7. Under the supervision of an authorized marshal act as marshal-in-charge for 4 tournaments. This shall include armor inspection, organizing the marshals and supervising the running of the lists.
  8. Must be recommended by their sponsor.
  9. Recording of these requirements will be through the online marshal-in-training activity report. The report can be found on the Kingdom Marshalate page.
  10. Prerequisites hours/events may be modified or waived by the Kingdom Armored Combat Marshal or the Kingdom Earl Marshal, based on prior experience and observed evaluation or recommendation of their sponsor.

Testing

  1. Verify completion of prerequisites.
  2. Must show a verbal knowledge of the rules by successfully completing an interview by the armored combat senior marshals (ACSM).
  3. The interview shall be in depth enough to judge the candidate's knowledge of armor requirements, weapons standards, field safety and the duties and responsibilities of an armored combat marshal.
  4. Candidates must show competence in inspecting armor and weapons for safety.
  5. Candidates must demonstrate an ability to maintain proper position relative to the combatants and safely observe the combat.
  6. Candidates must demonstrate an ability to understand combat and act as a fair witness when requested by the combatants or problems are observed.
  7. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to project commands so that they may be heard by combatants, during combat.
  8. The candidate has shown knowledge and competency in tourney marshaling.
  9. The candidate must explain the differences in marshalling melee and war situations. If practical, and at the armored combat senior marshal's (ACSM) discretion, the candidate may be asked to demonstrate melee and/or war marshaling. This may be completed at melee practices.

Warrant

  1. Meet the requirements per SCA, Inc.
  2. Must successfully complete the authorization for armored combat marshal (ACM).
  3. The authorization and warrant form shall be forwarded to the Marshal Clerk and the Kingdom Earl Marshal.
  4. Warranted by the Kingdom Earl Marshal or designated representative, once all authorization and warranting paperwork has been received in accordance with Society requirements.

Maintaining the warrant

  1. Membership must be maintained for the duration of the authorization. If membership lapses, the armored combat marshal may not perform the duties of an armored combat marshal until their membership has been restored.
  2. Submit all required reports. Repeated failure to submit required reports may be grounds for removal of their authorization and warrant.

Re-Authorization

  1. Meet all Society requirements.
  2. Show a verbal knowledge of the rules by successfully completing an interview by (1) senior armored combat marshal.
  3. Those Marshals whose authorization has been expired for more than 1 year, or whom the reauthorizing Marshals deems unfamiliar with current combat regulations, must go through the New Authorization process to renew their authorization. The prerequisites may be modified or waived a case by case basis by the Kingdom Armored Combat Marshal and/or the Kingdom Earl Marshal.

Armored combat senior marshal (ACSM)

Requirements

  1. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.

Authorization

  1. The candidate must have been an authorized armored combatant for two years. At the discretion of the Kingdom Earl Marshal, Kingdom Armored Combat Marshal and the Sovereign, this requirement may be waived.
  2. Has been an armored combat marshal for one year.
  3. If the Kingdom Earl Marshal or Kingdom Armored Combat Marshal is not present the authorization will be provisional pending approval and warranting by the Kingdom Earl Marshal or designated deputy.
  4. Two (2) armored combat senior marshals (ACSM) shall be in charge of the authorization of the prospective armored combat senior marshal candidate. These two marshals must be the same marshals used throughout all the testing.

Prerequisites

  1. Find an armored combat senior marshal (ACSM) who is willing to be your sponsor.
  2. Complete 10 armored combat authorizations with an authorized armored combat senior marshal (ACSM).
  3. Act as marshal-in-charge of 4 war or melee events. An event is counted as at least 1 day of melee practice or war. At least 1 day must be a war event. This shall include armor inspection, organizing the marshals and assisting in running the scenarios.
  4. Must be recommended by their sponsor.
  5. Recording of these requirements will be through the online marshal-in-training activity report.
  6. Prerequisites hours/events may be modified or waived by the Kingdom Armored Combat Marshal or the Kingdom Earl Marshal, based on prior experience and observed evaluation or recommendation of their sponsor.

Testing

  1. After completing the prerequisites, the candidate must show a verbal knowledge of the rules by successfully completing a verbal interview with two (2) armored combat senior marshals (ACSM). The interview should include but is not limited to the following:
    1. The duties and responsibilities of an armored combat senior marshal.
    2. The difference between an armored combat senior marshal and an armored combat marshal.
    3. Understand the difference between authorization and warranting.
    4. Understand the authorization process including the administrative requirements.
    5. Understand the marshals reports. (Event, list, and the injury, adverse, grievance reports)
    6. Demonstrate a detailed understanding of the Society and kingdom's weapons and armor standards.

Warrant

  1. Meet the requirements per SCA, Inc.
  2. Must successfully complete the authorization for armored combat senior marshal (ACSM).
  3. Authorization and warrant form shall be forwarded to the Marshal Clerk and the Kingdom Earl Marshal.
  4. Warranted by the Kingdom Earl Marshal or designated representative, once all authorization and warranting paperwork has been received and approved.

The prerequisites may be modified or waived a case by case basis by the Kingdom Armored Combat Marshal and/or the Kingdom Earl Marshal.

Territorial marshals

Canton or collegiate marshal

Requirements
  1. Meet the requirements per SCA, Inc.
  2. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  3. Must submit all required reports.
Warrant
  1. Must be at least a marshal-in-training (of any combat form in Caid armored combat, rapier, etc.) to hold this office, and must be at least a marshal to act as marshal-in-charge of an event or practice.
  2. Appointed by the political group head, and territorial marshal of the territory the canton or college is part of upon approval of the Kingdom Earl Marshal.

Baronial or shire marshal

Requirements
  1. Meet the requirements per SCA, Inc.
  2. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  3. Must submit all required reports.
Warrant
  1. Must be at least a marshal (of any combat form in Caid armored combat, rapier, etc.) to hold this office, and must be at least a marshal to act as marshal-in-charge of an event or practice.
  2. Appointed by the Kingdom Earl Marshal upon recommendation of the local political group head.

Event marshals

Marshal of the field

Requirements
  1. Must be at least an armored combat marshal.
  2. If working under the direct supervision of an authorized marshal, a marshal-in-training can train as the marshal of the field.
Duties and responsibilities
  1. The senior marshal of those marshals on a particular fighting field.
  2. In charge of all activities on their field as pertains to marshaling and fighting safety.

Marshal-in-charge

Requirements
  1. Must be at least an armored combat marshal
  2. To be a marshal-in-charge of a war they must be a Senior Marshal of at least one martial discipline.
  3. Submit an event report to the Kingdom Earl Marshal after any official event.
Duties and responsibilities
  1. Head marshal of an event. This may be the only marshal present or any marshal up to and including the Kingdom Earl Marshal.

  3. Supervises the conduct of all marshaling activities at the event and is responsible for the activities of Lists and ensuring that all participants have either signed the waiver or have proof of membership in the Society for Creative Anachronism.
  4. The marshal-in-charge is considered to be the chief marshal at an event, regardless of their actual rank in the marshalate and has all the duties and responsibilities per the Society rules.

Combat archery marshal-in-charge (CAMiC).

Requirements
  1. For combat archery, they must be at least an armored combat senior marshal (ACSM) in rank and authorized in combat archery (ACCA).
  2. For siege, they must be authorized in armored combat siege (ACSG), and have at least 1 year or 4 events of experience as an engineer, or have completed an appropriate training program within their kingdom
  3. Submit an event report to the Kingdom Earl Marshal after any official event.
Duties and responsibilities
  1. All duties and responsibilities per Society rules
  2. Supervises the conduct of all armored combat archery and siege marshaling activities at the event.
  3. The responsibilities may be split between two marshals.
  4. The combat archery and siege marshal-in-charge is considered to be the chief marshal at an event, regardless of their actual rank in the marshalate and has all the duties and responsibilities per the society rules.

Deputy for Combat Archery and Siege

Requirements

  1. Meet the requirements per SCA, Inc.
  2. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  3. Must submit all required reports.

Duties and responsibilities

  1. All the duties and responsibilities of the armored combat marshal-in-training (ACMiT), armored combat marshal (ACM) and armored combat senior marshal (ACSM).
  2. Trains and authorizes armored combat senior marshals in combat archery and siege.
  3. Is the default combat archery marshal-in-charge (CAMiC) for kingdom-level events, including Great Western War or other wars where Caid is a principal.

Warrant

  1. Must be at least a armored combat senior marshal (ACSM) in rank and be authorized in ACCA and ACSG. The office can be split if the Deputy is only authorized in one of the a aforementioned forms.
  2. Appointed by the Kingdom Earl Marshal for a term up to two years. Re-warranting is at the sole discretion of the Kingdom Earl Marshal or designated deputy.

Deputy Earl Marshal for Armored Combat (Kingdom Armored Combat Marshal)

Requirements

  1. Meet the requirements per SCA, Inc.
  2. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  3. Must submit all required reports.

Duties and responsibilities

  1. All the duties and responsibilities of the armored combat marshal-in-training (ACMiT), armored combat marshal (ACM) and armored combat senior marshal (ACSM).
  2. Trains and authorizes armored combat senior marshals (ACSM).
  3. Is the default armored combat marshal-in-charge (ACMiC) for kingdom-level events, including Great Western War or other wars where Caid is a principal.

Warrant
