Designated areas

General

  1. The armored combat marshal-in-charge will designate the areas where armored combat activities are allowed to occur, in coordination with the event steward and event marshal-in-change.
  2. Combat must only occur in an area that has been designated for combat.

List field

  1. The area should have access and space to support marshals.
  2. The area should be clearly marked or have natural boundaries to exclude non-participants.
  3. Check that the area can be safely fought upon (i.e. can someone in armor, with restricted vision, cross it safely),
  4. Check for holes, soft spots, rocks, etc. If possible, these should be marked or cordoned off. If a serious hazard cannot be worked around, move the fighting location.

Battlefield

  1. A buffer zone needs to be provided between the edges of the battlefield and spectators at all times. This needs to be increased when combat archery and/or siege is included.
  2. It should not be possible to hit a spectator, either with direct fire or with a bounced missile, so the marshal-in-charge must make sure there is sufficient distance to minimize the chances of deflected shots traveling into the spectators.
  3. Physical barriers could eliminate the need for a buffer zone or lessen the distance needed.

Caid additions to Designated areas

  1. There shall be no smoking on the field.
  2. For single combat, the minimum list field is 40 feet x 40 feet. This can be waived by the marshal-in-charge after reviewing the nature of combat to be performed, spectator safety, and safety of the fighters and marshals. It is important to make every attempt to make the list fields as large as possible, up to the standard 40 feet x 40 feet
  3. For melee, the minimum list field size is 40 feet x 80 feet. If there are more than 16 fighters, the field size shall be evaluated and adjusted at the marshal-in-charge's discretion.
  4. Where combat includes missiles, a readily identifiable boundary (edge of the field) for the combat must be established.
    1. The marshal-in-charge shall establish a safe distance for the spectators from the boundary, while leaving a "buffer zone" of at least 10 yards (30 feet) between the edge of the field and the spectator area, as is appropriate to the scenario and missiles used.
    2. Spectators and inactive fighters must be outside this zone while combat is still taking place.
