Changes to our kingdom rules

The following are changes in the West Kingdom Handbook from 2016 to 2025, and are presented in two sections:

  1. Changes from West kingdom specific rules (i.e. kingdom rules in addition to the Society rules)
  2. Key changes in Society rules from 2016 to 2025. For additional details see the change logs in the Society marshal handbooks for 2018, 2020, 2021, 2023 and 2025.

Summary of changes in West kingdom additional rules

  1. Re-organized West Kingdom specific rules into the new Society handbook format.
  2. Added all allowed kingdom specific rules from the 2016 handbook to the new Society handbook format. They are denoted by "West Kingdom additions..." and highlighted in blue.
  3. The following kingdom specific rules were removed or edited:
    1. Minor authorization - A parent or legal guardian must now be present. This removed the requirement for a marshal with an SCA-approved background check if no parent was present.
    2. Removed the "helms as worn" option.
    3. For senior marshals, added that the requirement for prior authorization in heavy combat may be waived by at the KEM's or Kingdom Heavy Marshal's discretion.
    4. The process for heavy combat authorizations was updated.
