The handbook includes our existing rules. Previously unwritten rules, such as corkscrewing, are now written down and codified.
Overview of armored combat
Added Northshield's armored combat authorization categories, no changes.
When you are allowed to participate
- Northshield minor policy including helm marking
- Participants are required to show their authorization card before entering combat activities at an event.
- Vouching for a combatant's authorization is prohibited.
Conventions - Rules of engagement
- Single combat engagement - added information on corkscrewing. This information codifies our previously unwritten rule.
- Single combat engagement - added information on hold with loss of arm depending on weapon form. This information codifies our previously unwritten rule.
Conventions - Use of weapons and defensive equipment
- If a combat archer wishes to use a backup weapon, they must be authorized in the style appropriate to the backup weapon - no change.
Equipment standards - Handheld weapons
- Northshield does not allow natural polypropylene round rod for weapons. This information codifies our previously unwritten rule.
Authorization
- Expiry and Renewal - added authorization lasts for 4 years. This is new effective December 23, 2026
- Defined all version of required valid proof of authorization
Authorization process

- Re-authorization procedure - added "For the practical test, a successful authorization bout with any previously authorized style will reactivate all the previously held armored combat authorizations held."

Marshalate - Overview
- Noted that Northshield does not have unwarranted marshals.

Kingdom marshalate
- Kingdom marshalate - The entire section was added and reworded, but is not new. The levels of marshal previously existed but were not codified in any meaningful way.
