Kingdom marshalate
General
- Kingdoms must document their marshalate structure and process for the authorization of marshals for this discipline.
- The general Society requirements for marshals, authorities and responsibilities are found in:
Avacal's marshalate structure
Field marshal
- Not warranted
- A field marshal is appointed for the activity by the marshal in charge and is not required to be authorized.
- Assists marshals on the field during combat.
- Calls holds for safety reasons.
- must be under the direct supervision of a Junior or Senior marshal.
Junior marshal
- Not warranted
- A junior marshal is under the tutelage of the marshal's office and is subject to instruction and correction by any authorized marshal.
- Assists marshals with armour and weapon inspections.
- Assists marshals on the field during combat.
- Calls holds for safety reasons.
- Can marshal pick-up and practice fights.
Senior marshal
- Warranted by the Kingdom Earl Marshal.
- Performs all the duties and responsibilities of a junior marshal.
- Inspects and approves standard armour and weapons, including missiles. Visually inspects bows.
- Trains junior marshals.
- May act as marshal-in-charge for tournaments and melee tournaments and war events.
- Can authorize armoured combat fighters and marshals.
Knight (Branch) Marshals
- Warranted by the Kingdom Earl Marshal for a specific territory.
- Territorial offices are those positions in the marshalate that carry the added responsibility of running a given territory's marshalling activities. This includes colleges, shires, cantons and baronies.
- Organizes marshalling activities at canton or college events.
- Is the marshal-in-charge of their territorial practice.
- Appoints deputies to handle disciplines (armoured combat, rapier, etc.) they are not warranted in.
Kingdom Armoured Combat Marshal
- Appointed and warranted by the Kingdom Earl Marshal as the Deputy Earl Marshal for Armoured Combat

- As a the Kingdom Earl Marshal, if the Crown Event Steward and the Kingdom Armoured Deputy is incapable of establishing the marshal-in-charge for Crown Tournament, then it is the responsibility of the Kingdom Earl Marshal to establish the marshal-in-charge for the crown tournament.

Junior marshal
Requirements
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
- Must be a member of the society.
- Must state they intend to follow the rules herein after reading them thoroughly.
Authorization
- Two witnessing senior marshals must approve of the promotion; the primary senior marshal will submit the promotion to the Avacal Lists.
- Those marshals will verify the junior marshal is familiar with the rules in this manual.
Re-authorization
- Re-authorization as a junior marshal may be completed by one senior marshal after the authorizing marshal has verified their knowledge of the rules.
Senior marshal
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
- Must be a member of the society.
- The candidate must have a good working knowledge of the Rules of the Lists, the Society Conventions of Combat, and the Avacal rules and conventions.
- The candidate must be willing to enforce the Rules of the Lists, the Society Conventions of Combat, and the Avacal rules and conventions.
- The candidate must have a good working knowledge of the Society minimum armour and weapons standards and the Avacal armour and weapons standards.
- The candidate must demonstrate the ability to conduct an inspection of all armour and weapons for use in combat.
- The candidate must demonstrate the ability to safely control SCA combat, whether this is single combat, team combat, general melee, or part of a war environment.
Authorization
- Two witnessing senior marshals must approve of the promotion; the primary senior marshal will submit the promotion to the relevant Kingdom Deputy or the Kingdom Earl Marshal.
- Those marshals will verify the senior marshal meets the requirements above.
- The relevant kingdom deputy or Kingdom Earl marshal will approve the authorization and submit the promotion to Avacal Lists.
Re-authorization
- Re-authorization as a senior marshal may be completed by one senior marshal after the authorizing marshal has verified their knowledge of the rules.
